Beginning to feel a little stressed out this week. I leave tomorrow morning for Virginia for work. Then I fly back Monday night, followed by a student rep training in Logan on Tues and Wed, followed by a lovely 12-hour shift at work on Thursday, followed by a work summer party that I am cooking for on Friday.. ..... ..... Wondering when I might be seeing my family again. Maybe I will send them a post card.

AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!! I just climbed a tall mountain and let the stress release from my body. School hasn't even started yet. I need to buckle down and set up boundaries real quick so I can juggle only the balls that I need for the next few months and let the other ones fall for someone else to pick up.

A big SHOUT OUT to all the students that suffered through Summer semester, good job for sticking with it while the rest of us were out relaxing in the sun.

Time to get ready for Fall semester now. The bookstore is getting shipments of lots of books so make sure you are being proactive and getting your textbooks early.

We have a New Student Orientation scheduled at the USU Tooele Campus on August 25th at 6pm. If you are a new student or know of a knew student please be sure to let them know about it.

It's all most over

Well, my summer came and went quicker than expected. Looking back, I feel like I made a good decision regarding taking the summer off to recoup. I really was beginning to feel overwhelmed. I am kinda excited to get back in the swing of things. I have really missed walking through the campus and seeing my fellow students.

I would like to take next summer off also but I really need the corporate finance class and they only offer that face-to-face in the summer. I think I need to really get that idea out of my head.

August is going to be crazy for me. I need to get my kids ready to get back to school, I am going out to Virginia for some training with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, I need go up to Logan for some student rep. training, buy my textbooks, new student orientation, and then classes start. CRAZY!!! CRAZY!!!

At least I can look forward to September.

Just got back from a road trip. It was awesome!!!! Covered about 2200 miles in 7 days. Lake Tahoe, San Francisco, Big Sur, Carlsbad, and Vegas. My favorite part of the whole trip was Big Sur. It is like Yellowstone next to the ocean. I can't wait to get back there and spend a little more time. However, work was calling and it is time to get back to reality.

P.S. I want to give a huge THANK YOU to all the students and faculty that helped with the 4th of July parades.

Today is my first day shift after working graveyards for 3-months. What a shock to the body. The one thing I can look forward to is that I will be asleep tonight.

Things have been pretty quiet around the campus for me. I have had an occasional meeting but really haven't been around too much. The July 4th parade is coming along nicely. We have been getting some student volunteers and their families advising that they can help hand out water. A big thanks to the Lakepoint McDonalds who donated two cases of water and to Tooele Maceys that gave us a huge discount on the remaining water we needed. We will be handing out over 1200 bottles of water between the two parades. That seems like a lot now, but I am sure it will go really fast. After two years of school I was feeling a little burned out and decided to take summer semester off. I have had one month of not having homework or a class on my daily agenda. Needless to say, it has been nice. I need to start looking at the Fall class schedule and decide which classes I am going to take, but I don't want to even think about it. If I can get anything across to those recent high-school graduates, stay in school. Finish your college education before you have a full-time job, kids, and a house. I really wish I knew everything back when I thought I knew everything. Oh well, the journey will be worth it in the end.

Kids are out of school

Today was the first day the kids are out of school for the summer. I can already tell it is going to be a long week. I told my 7 year old that he needs to be dressed by 10am and he just can't understand why I made such a dumb rule. I personally can't stand having the kids sit in front of a TV all day long so I tell them to go outside and play around 11am. It was a beautiful day and I was just heading out to do some yard work. Finally after about 30 minutes of them sitting on the deck looking bored, I told them that if I have to entertain them all summer I will start the day with a list of chores to complete. Jeez, these kids were so excited for summer break but when it arrives they have no idea what to do.

Hopefully tomorrow they will have it figured out.

Fourth of July Parade

This year the Tooele campus is participating in the 4th of July parades for Tooele and Grantsville. We need students that need service hours or just want to come out and

support their campus to volunteer. Volunteers will be walking along the parade route handing out bottles of water to spectators.

We would like to have separate volunteer groups for each parade. Please let me know which parade you would like to help with.

A SIMPLE INTRODUCTION

I want to start off by saying a great big "thank-you" to our outgoing president, Rachael Anderson. Rachael has given so much of her time and energy to our campus over the last three years, we will miss her.

Your new Tooele Campus student rep. is me, Randi Gamble. I have been going to school at the USU Tooele Campus for the past two years. Last year I served as the vice-president student rep. I am working towards a bachelors degree in accounting and then I plan on enrolling in a masters program.

I work full time for the Tooele County Sheriff's Office as a Dispatch Sgt. I have worked there for 13 years. I really enjoy the job because you never know what kind of day you are going to have. The shift work can be exhausting sometimes, and working the holidays when everyone else is home with their families is difficult, but there are so many other parts of the job that I love. I have three kids- a 17 year-old daughter, and two sons 14 and 7 years old.

I stay pretty busy between work, school, and home. The only thing that helps me maintain everything is the support of my family and staying organized.

Enough about me for now. I hope everyone has a great summer and I will keep you posted on upcoming events.

The Aggie Day Event could not have been any better. Thank you to the alumni, staff, and students that helped make this event one to remember. We had over 400 people attend this amazing event. Again, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

I say not to be nervous but I will have to admit I am a little nervous myself. I have to pass the math placement test to get into the STATS 1040 for this summer. Wish me luck as well and hopefully we can pass all the tests that are coming our way together.

Volunteers needed for Clean Up!

The Tooele County Chamber of Commerce will begin the clean-up process on our newly acquired building located at 154 South Main, Tooele.

This project will be coordinated with our great volunteers from Wal-Mart Logistics! A special thanks to Jeff Loafman for his coordinating efforts!
We will begin removing the old carpet from the building and are asking volunteers to bring gloves, square mouth shovels and any other equipment that might be useful.
Weather permitting, we may also be working on outside clean-up.

Why I LOVE being a USU Tooele Student

I was just thinking today how lucky I am to be able to go to the USU Tooele Regional Campus. The reason for me thinking this is because of one of my classes this semester. The professor has helped me by first of all not dropping the class because I was the only one that signed up. Second, my professor has set it up where I have been able to go on job shadows with the people in my field. This has really helped me see what occupation would really fit me and what I would be passionate about doing for my career. Third, I have been able to do some networking to help me in this field for the future. Really I am not sure if you could really have a class like this any other place than USU Tooele. I love the small classroom sizes and the wonderful professors. Again, I count myself a lucky student.

Blue Rock Run- 5K

The Blue Rock Run will be here before you know it. On March 20, 2010 we will be having a race that begins at 8am (walkers) and 8:30am (runners). Be sure to pick up a registration form at the USU Tooele Campus. I would suggest to register before the race day but they will accept registration forms the day of the race from 7am to 7:45am. The price to enter is $15 which all proceeds benefit the USU Tooele Scholarship Fund. Come join the run!

Snowball Classic is taking place February 5th and 6th in Salt Lake City and consists of Bowling and Volleyball competitions. If you are interested in volunteering for this event you can choose from three different venues. You must also sign up through Special Olympics at http://sout.vsyshost.com/!!!
The bowling competition will be held at Bonwood Bowl (2500 S Main St, South Salt Lake) and Ritz Classic Lanes (2265 S State St, SLC). You volunteer at either of these locations between 9am and 5pm. Volunteer check-in will begin at 8am, please bring picture ID.
The volleyball competition will be held on Friday ONLY at Intermountain Volleyball Association IVA (2595 W Custer Rd, SLC). You can volunteer at this location between 10am and 5pm. Volunteer check-in will begin at 9am, please bring picture ID.
Volunteer duties include: score keeping, awards, meals, line judging and team registration.

Today was such a busy day. I went to work, had two school meetings, and went to class. Even though life is full of busy work I always try to put some time aside to enjoy myself with some friends for a little break. This last weekend my group of friends had the chance to go ice skating, eat pizza, and have a girls night out. It was almost like being a little girl again. We had a crazy night of dressing up goofy and taking funny pictures. I am just so grateful to have such a good group of friends to help me get through this busy year of school. Thanks guys!

Welcome to Spring Semester

Hey students! I hope this week was not too crazy for you. It was nice meeting many of you as I had the chance to help direct you to your classes during the week. I know if you are anything like me you are a little excited and nervous for this semester but are taking the jump either way. This week was really interesting as I had the chance to experience three different types of classes at once. I currently have a face-to-face class, a online class, and a broadcast class. I have always enjoyed a face-to-face class because of the participation in class. I think this class will be great as I get to take a few field trips regarding my major and see what some of the options are in the field of Family Consumer and Human Development. My online class is going to be great because many of the lectures are audio along with slide shows. In the past most of my online classes had a lot of reading so I think it will be very refreshing, interesting, and amazing to have more audio presentations. Last, is my broadcast class. I really think this will be one of my favorite classes. My professors seems like so much fun and even though all the students are all over that state I think there will be great group of students for class discussions. For those students that are experiencing a new way of class whether that be online, face-to-face, or broadcast class don’t be too scared because all of these resources are a great way to get a wonderful education from Utah State University. Most of all students I want to wish you the best of luck and success during the semester.

Are you as stuffed as I am with the delicious tastes of ham, cheesy potatoes, and dessert such as chocolate mousse pie, pumpkin roll, cookies, and candy? Have you also enjoyed the beauty of the colorful lights and the melodious sounds of the holiday season as I have? I loved spending time with family and friends experiencing the traditions that have been created through the years. I now know that the beginning of the new semester is just around the corner. I am all registered and ready to go other than buying a few more expensive books that are needed for my classes. Yikes, I gasp for a moment at the cost, but know that it will be worth it in the long run. I did benefit from the time off, but I know it is time to set some goals for the New Year and get things started again. Whoo hoo! Here is to 2010!!!

One, Two, Three, Break!

Now that the semester is over, I am trying to enjoy the break as I hope all of you are too. My way of relaxing is having some fun with family and friends. One of the things I like to do in my spare time is play volleyball on Wednesday nights. A group of friends my age get to together and try to play what we hope has some semblance to a game of spirited volleyball. Trying to rally back and forth we get a little competitive, but sometimes we have to take a break because we are all laughing so hard from a silly mistake someone has made. I know I am not the only one enjoying the time off. Some of the other USU Tooele Students “dive” right into the fun, Brannan Ekins, Patrick Buhr, and others who have been attending USU Tooele are also enjoying the time off to play some volleyball this week.

USU Tooele Students Give a Gift for Christmas

The re-entry representative, Sherena Huntsman, and others came together during this season to give a gift to the community. USU Tooele students gave a free child care service for the night. Parents dropped their children off not really knowing what we had planned, but trusted that their children would enjoy all the surprises we had in store. The night went fantastic. All the children started the night off by coloring a few pictures until everyone arrived. Once all the children were present, we split the children into three groups so they could rotate to three different activities. One activity was making ornaments for the tree along with creating a winter scene with cotton balls and chalk. The second activity was decorating their own cookie with frosting and sprinkles. Also, using hand paint to build their own personal reindeer. The third activity was making a Santa Claus with a chain like beard. I enjoyed sitting with the kids enjoying some pizza, vegetables, and fruit for dinner. After dinner we got to do a little hall-way bowling and at the end of the night we all watched a Muppet Christmas movie while eating popcorn. In reality I thought we had a magnificent group of children and a brilliant night full of fun. I hope this is an activity we can do in years to come. I hope all the parents enjoyed their time. I want to thank all the students that volunteered their time to make this night successful.

Children's Campus for Christmas- A GET-A-WAY NIGHT

A "Get-A-Way" night for parents of the community is a gift we are giving this year for Christmas. For those parents that might need to do last minute shopping, wrap the gifts, or need a little time for themselves this is definitely for you. A Free Service project is being given to the families of Tooele County. USU Tooele Students are providing workshops, dinner, crafts, games, movies, and snacks for your children.

Grantsville Dance Helps in the Coat Drive

I just want to thank Grantsville Dance in being the grand finale in the Coat Drive this year. Many people donated coats as they entered the forum of Grantsville High School tonight to watch the annual dance recital. I really want to thank all those that helped USU Tooele Regional Campus assist those in the community that are in need as this time. The coats are going to a great cause and are very appreciated. There are no real words that can describe my gratefulness in being able to help others on my birthday. I know I have said this many times before but again THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for your help this year. To show of the success the picture will show the majority of the items we were able to collect this year. More then 3 huge boxes were full of blankets and warm clothing. It was perfect!

Tooele Parade

The annual Christmas Parade was so much fun this year as students, faculty, and their relatives gathered together. Starting with a huge box we started to hand out candy canes to all those children standing on the streets with their families.

I want to thank all those that participated in this event to make it as excited and fun as it was. Running together trying to keep up with the parade was fun exercise for the day. Thank you!

USU Tooele Winter Service Project "Coat Drive"

The Tooele Transcript did a wonderful job describing our goal this year regarding the coat drive. As Randi and I were contemplating what we could do as a school for a service project to help the community, I again thought of our school district and the children in need that do not have warm clothing for the winter. Randi works for the dispatch office and she thought of the women's shelter and their need of warm clothing as well. Our goal is to rally together and collect a variety of useful coats. The coat drive is going from Nov. 30, 2009 to Dec. 11, 2009. If you would like to assist in this cause please feel free to drop off items in the Christmas box at the Campus.

Student BBQ

Jeff Rawlins, a USU Tooele student, grilled some of the most scrumptious amazing ribs and Dean Straquadine whipped up his famous tasty Dutch oven potatoes to get the BBQ started right.

Students gathered around the mouthwatering food at approximately 5pm ready to dive into a delicious meal. In addition they filled up their plates with the yummy sides dishes of baked beans, cole slaw, and jello.

The friendly visiting of students, staff, and faculty made for a wonderful evening. There was a great turn out at the BBQ as there were close to 150 people who joined in the fun. It was a great activity to wish everyone the best of luck for finals.

Hard Work Pays Off

Wow what a busy week and a half. I have been doing so many different assignments, quizzes, and test in the past week and a half I was about to go crazy but I made it. I have been working so hard I thought I would reward myself by making the time to get to play volleyball with some friends tonight. It was so nice to get out and away from the studying and test taking for once. It was so much fun we played clear until 11:30pm at night. That wasn't such a great idea with work in the morning but hey I enjoyed ever last second. I just think it feels good getting all that work done and taking a break. I feel it was a break worth having. Students… don't forget to reward yourself after all the hard work is done. I had a friend that told me after each semester is over she celebrates by going on a short vacation. I know with busy schedules this isn't always possible but at least take a night off and enjoy some time with your family or friends.

Do you know about ASUSU?

When I started to attend the Tooele Regional Campus I just attended classes not thinking much about how Utah State University was organized until I got involved in the student government here at the Tooele Campus. Once I became a student representative I would hear ASUSU and had no clue what ASUSU really was. What is ASUSU and why is it important to the Tooele Campus? Well I later found out that ASUSU stood for Associated Students of Utah State University. ASUSU is important to Tooele because it is a group of students that are the link or connection to those in authority of the University. In other words if there are huge problems or changes that are needed to be made they are brought to the attention of ASUSU to be resolved. The ASUSU is a great board that helps keep USU in check. I am glad I had the opportunity to learn of ASUSU so if there big enough concerns I can contact someone on the board to bring up the concerns of our students here at Tooele. I have been crossing my fingers and hoping one day that there will be a person that sits on ASUSU that represents all Regional/Extension Campuses. If any you have concerns let me know and we can at least start there. :)

Tooele Main Street Trick-or-Treat

There is a tradition in Tooele where all the businesses on Main Street gather together and help support it's community by having a trick-or-treat for all the children on Halloween.

All the hundreds of children and their parents stroll down the street stopping at each store or company spot. Many of the companies not even located on Main Street will also gather near main street to hand out a treat or fun surprise.

USU Tooele has a spot on Main Street each year. This year Randi and I had the chance to put on our Aggie sweaters and participate in this event.

While handing out USU Tooele pencils to the kids we admired all the different costumes of the kids and some adults. I also had the chance to meet Randi's daughter. She was such a sport in helping us hand out pencils this year.

Sick... I don't want to be SICK.

I don't want to be sick but I am afraid this week has been just that. Aching body, runny nose, and blacking out has been the events of the week for me. I hate to admit that I got a small case of the swine flu. As we all know it is moving fast so everyone needs to make sure to stay healthy. I think the reason I caught this terrible flu is because of lack of sleep so... learn from my experience and try to get as much sleep and exercise as you can. I plan try to get as much sleep as I can to fight this awful flu so I can be ready for Halloween Day.

Halloween is a holiday I have never really been use to but I am getting prepared early this year. Through out this week I have been trying my hardest to get assignments, tests, and quizzes done just so I could go spend some time with one of my most amazing friends today. We had the chance to go check out a few Halloween stores just to see what we could find to dress up as for a Halloween event. We found these great glasses just to start off the night. I think this Halloween will definitely be exciting.

We were getting prepared for a Halloween Dinner. All those interested in the LDS Institute Program are invited to come join the fun. The Dinner will be held at the church near 200 South 200 East in Tooele at 6:30 pm on Oct. 31st. Again, come join the fun.

Women's Resource Center and the Reentry Student Center Child Care Grant Instrunctions

Midterms and finals come so quick and trying to find the time to do the extra work seems completely impossible and expensive when it comes to child care but don't give up. Here is a list of instructions to complete to help get a grant for child care expenses. For 1 child you can get $125, 2 children $150, 3 children $175, and 4 children $200. Midterms and finals are never easy but at least this can help.

Re-entry Program

I was thinking the other day how terrifying it would be if I was an older student coming back to school after twenty years. I think school can be hard just coming out of high school. That is why I am so excited for this new re-entry program. I am learning new details here and there. I have been told so far that this program helps those students that have been out of school for a long time and need a little additional help learning all then new things about how Utah State University runs. Technology is always growing and because of that there are always new systems of submitting assignments, getting grades, and doing online classes. Starting school can be frightening but I think with this new program it will make this transaction easier for those students that want to continue their education.

Busy as a Bee

This week has been an eventful one. I sometimes wonder if life every slows down. I have been staying busy with work, school, and even time with family going to a funeral in Wellsville, UT. I will have to be honest when I say I can't wait for this weekend. Students let me tell you I understand how busy things can get at times but I believe you can get through it. Hang in there we can get through this semester together. That’s why I say busy as a bee because bees depend on each other. Thank you for all those people that help me get through busy weeks like this one. Also, everyone enjoy this homecoming weekend.

The Homecoming game is coming quickly so hurry and get your Aggie Pride ready. On Saturday, September 26th a BBQ will be held just on the northeast side of the Stadium from 3pm to 5pm and all students are invited. BLOOD BATTLE VICTORY

"TRUE AGGIES BLEED BLUE"

The blood battle was a success late Monday night. A number of people came together to participate in this battle to win. Our campus was given a goal to get at least 20 units of blood and we beat that goal. Myself (Rachael Anderson), Dean Gary S. Straquadine, and Student Body VP Randi Gamble rallied together to get the students going.

Larry Whatley, a student attending USU Tooele, was one of the fastest donating donors of the night. It was so much fun to sit and visit with him and all of the other participants of the night. Enjoying free pizza and free t-shirts I don't think the night could have been any better.

Well at least until it was Randi's turn to donate. It was Randi's first time donating and she did an AWESOME job helping out.

During the Fall, Utah State University takes up their arms, literally, in a blood battle against the University of Utah in a competition to collect the most pints of blood to assist those in need. The American Red Cross blood drive will be held at the USU Tooele Campus, 1021 W. Vine St., Tooele, UT on August 31st from 4pm to 9pm. Everyone get the word out. A DAY IN MY LIFE BY RACHAEL

To me what I do everyday can seem pretty normal, but I guess to someone else it is not. To help understand what a student might go through on a regular day while attending the Tooele Regional Campus, I will take you on a journey through a day in my life. Like many students that attend the Tooele Campus, I have a full time job. I work for a local State Farm Insurance Agency. Keeping busy with helping customers and people acquiring quotes, I work until the busy work-day is over. Around five I get off and head straight for class. For now it is a English 3030, a class that is smaller in size. The size of the class actually makes it perfect for any kind of discussion. Once class is over, I often go into the computer lab to do work for my online classes. I have the Internet at home, but being at the school helps stop any distractions I might have. There is always a quiet place to work at the school. By the time I come to a close with my online class, it is late and I am more than ready to go home for a good nights rest. On other days, I often participate in activities with an institute group and enjoy being with friends or family when I am not doing homework. I hope that as I take life a step at a time in each day in my life, I can come closer to achieving my goals. Going to school is definitely one of those goals.

Welcome to Utah State University Tooele Regional Campus

Hello everyone! My name is Rachael and I am one of the student reps for this year. I just want to start off by welcoming everyone that sees this blog. I hope that through this blog you will get a better understanding of the Utah State University Tooele Regional Campus. The Tooele Regional Campus is awesome! We have great faculty and staff that are always trying to help to the best of their ability. I feel that I can count myself lucky to be able to attend here. The campus is a little different from a main campus because of the age differences of the students. Many of the students have a story of why they are attending the campus. For instance we have students that are single mothers trying to get an education to better provide for their children, older adults just trying to accomplish a goal, or even a young aged student that is tight on money that still wants to go to school but the cost of main campus is out of their reach. Really no matter your age The Tooele Campus is willing to help out. I feel that many of the students are happy with the opportunity to attend school close to home because I know I do.
